The Crystal Springs Chapter was formed in 2005 and chartered in 2007. Our members reside in Millbrae, Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo and Foster City. The Chapter supports the mission and values of NCL, Inc.

National Charity League, Inc. was founded in 1947 in Los Angeles, California. National Charity League, Inc. is currently comprised of 168 Chapters in 17 states with 39,000 members nationwide. It is is the only mother-daughter volunteer force of its kind serving local communities. Each Chapter of National Charity League is incorporated in its state of origin, is lead by an elected Board of Directors, and ultimately becomes a non-profit entity.

The Chapter Board is responsible for determining all aspects of participation for the Chapter members: calendar of meetings, events, activities for the year; dues, attendance, and participation requirements; bylaws, standing rules (operational procedures), philanthropy choices for the Chapter, etc. The Chapter Board of Directors meets once a month to conduct the business of the Chapter.

The mothers, known as Patronesses, meet monthly in Chapter-wide meetings. Patroness meetings are devoted to philanthropy work, special programs, activities and shaping the future direction of the Chapter. Mothers and daughters together help determine the philanthropic  opportunities we serve. Philanthropic service is the core of our participation. In addition, Patronesses take on leadership roles during their years with NCL, Inc. Each mother commits to leadership position within the Chapter to fulfill their membership requirement. Examples of such positions are Board member, committee chairman or committee member. In NCL, Inc., everyone has a role every year.

The daughters, known as Ticktockers, meet independently. They are organized by grade level, have their own elected officers, and have an adult grade level advisors. Their meetings are designed around the Chapter’s Six-Year Plan that is designed  to promote educational, leadership and cultural objectives through programs, presentations, and field trips. They each have a philanthropic hours requirement, and are required to fulfill some leadership role each year. The Ticktocker program  provides opportunities for girls to learn the joy of giving; to develop and practice leadership and social skills within their peer groups; and to have an awareness and to develop cultural awareness in the community.
